Why it matters
Many aspirants lose a chance not because they studied too little, but because they misread the notification: they miss a certificate, leave a preference blank, or think their first exam marks will count in the final list. The notification is the rulebook. If you know it, you know which marks matter, which tests only need to be "passed", and where the real competition lies. This lesson walks you through every stage, from the online form to the final list.

The five posts in this notification
| Post code | Post | Direct recruitment posts | Who can apply |
|---|---|---|---|
| 21 | SCT Police Constable (Civil), Police Department | 542 | Men and women |
| 22 | SCT Police Constable (AR), Police Department | 285 | Men and women |
| 42 | Firemen, State Disaster Response and Fire Services | 158 | Men only |
| 53 | Warders (Men), Prisons and Correctional Services | 150 | Men only |
| 54 | Warders (Women), Prisons and Correctional Services | 21 | Women only |
| Total | 1,156 |
A few points that beginners often miss:
- SCT means Stipendiary Cadet Trainee. For post codes 21 and 22, you receive a stipend during institutional training. After you complete training, you are placed in the regular pay scale of Rs.25,220 – 80,910 (Revised Pay Scale 2022). The same pay scale is listed for all five posts.
- Women's reservation: 33⅓% of direct-recruitment posts in PC (Civil) and 20% in PC (AR) are reserved for women.
- Backlog posts: apart from the 1,156, there are 99 backlog (Limited Recruitment) posts for codes 21, 22 and 42. These go only to local candidates of that particular revenue district.
- One form for all posts: you submit only one application even if you want several posts. In that form you list your post preferences and unit preferences. Any post or unit you leave blank will not be considered for you, so fill preferences carefully.
Separate notifications in 2026 (Rc.No.92 and Rc.No.93) cover PC (Communications), PC (Mechanics) and PC (Drivers). They follow a different, technical exam scheme and are not part of this course.
Who can apply (in short)
| Rule | PC (Civil) 21 and PC (AR) 22 | Firemen 42, Warders 53 and 54 |
|---|---|---|
| Age as on 1 July 2026 | 18 to 24 years (born between 2 July 2002 and 1 July 2008) | 18 to 32 years (born between 2 July 1994 and 1 July 2008) |
| Education as on 1 July 2026 | Intermediate pass | Intermediate pass |
- Age relaxation: up to 5 years for BC (Non-Creamy Layer), SC, ST and EWS candidates, plus other relaxations listed in the notification (for example, ex-servicemen and State Government employees). Eligible serving Home Guards have a limit of 18 to 32 years for all posts.
- SC/ST relief in education (codes 21, 22 and 42): an SSC pass is enough if you studied Intermediate and appeared for both the 1st-year and 2nd-year Intermediate exams. For Warders (53, 54), Intermediate pass is required.
- Date of birth is taken only from your SSC (or equivalent) certificate.
- Fee: Rs.300 for OC (including EWS), BC and all non-local candidates; Rs.150 for local SC and ST candidates.
- Medical standards: good eyesight (6/6 distant vision in each eye) is required, and conditions such as colour blindness, squint, flat feet and knock-knees disqualify a candidate. The notification advises getting checked by a Civil Surgeon before applying.
How you apply: two stages of the form
- Step I – Pay the fee on the SLPRB website, using details such as your name, date of birth, mobile number, community and SSC hall ticket number.
- Step II – Submit the Stage I online application. If you pay but do not press "submit", the application is rejected and the fee is lost. You also choose your exam language (English, Telugu or Urdu) here.
- Step III – Stage II application. Only candidates who qualify in the Preliminary Written Test do this. You upload scanned certificates before attending the physical tests.
Your Preliminary result is issued based on what you declared in Stage I (community, local status, EWS and so on). If anything is later found false, your candidature is rejected.
The selection process, stage by stage
| Stage | What happens | Does it count in final merit? |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Preliminary Written Test (PWT) | 200 questions, 200 marks, 3 hours | No – qualifying only |
| 2. Physical Measurements Test (PMT) | Height, chest (men), weight (women) | No – qualifying only |
| 3. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) | 1600 m run, 100 m run, long jump | Qualifying for 21, 42, 53, 54; scored out of 100 for 22 |
| 4. Final Written Examination (FWE) | 200 questions, 3 hours, same syllabus | Yes |
| 5. Verification | Certificates, antecedents, medical exam | Must clear to be appointed |
Stage 1: Preliminary Written Test
One objective paper of 200 questions for 200 marks in three hours, answered on an OMR sheet with a blue or black ball-point pen. Questions are printed in English, Telugu and Urdu, but English-subject questions stay in English. The syllabus has seven parts: English, Arithmetic (SSC standard), Reasoning/Mental Ability, General Science, History of India, Indian culture and Indian National Movement, Indian Geography-Polity-Economy, and Current Events.
To qualify you need 40% for OC (including EWS), 35% for BC and 30% for SC/ST. Special-category candidates (Home Guards, NCC and so on) need the qualifying marks of their own community category. The notification says PWT marks have no relevance in the final selection.
Still, the PWT is the biggest filter. In the previous recruitment (2022 cycle), 4,59,182 candidates appeared for the PWT and only 95,208 qualified — roughly one in five. A 40% cut-off sounds easy, but most candidates still fail it.
Stage 2: Physical Measurements Test
Qualified candidates download an intimation letter from the website and report for PMT. The general standards are: men – height at least 167.6 cm and chest at least 86.3 cm with 5 cm expansion; women – height at least 152.5 cm and weight at least 40 kg. Relaxed standards apply to Aboriginal Scheduled Tribe candidates of notified agency areas. All original certificates are checked at this venue, so carry every document with one attested photocopy set.
Stage 3: Physical Efficiency Test
For codes 21, 42, 53 and 54, you must clear the 1600 m run and one of the other two events (100 m run or long jump). For code 22, you must clear all three. Events are timed electronically, spike shoes are not allowed, and there is no second chance once an event is conducted. The physical standards are taught in detail in the Physical Preparation subject.
Stage 4: Final Written Examination
One paper, 200 questions, three hours, same syllabus as the PWT, same qualifying percentages (40/35/30). For codes 21, 42, 53 and 54 it is graded out of 200 marks. For code 22, the same 200 questions are graded out of 100 marks.
Stage 5: Final selection and after
- Codes 21, 42, 53, 54: rank is decided only by your FWE marks (out of 200), among those who cleared the PET.
- Code 22: rank is decided by FWE (100) + PET marks (100) = 200.
- The first 5% of posts are filled on open merit (locals and non-locals); the remaining 95% go to local candidates only.
- If two candidates in a category have equal marks, the one born earlier is preferred.
- Selection is provisional until your original certificates, character and antecedents, and medical fitness are verified. There is no waiting list.
Worked example: why PET can change your rank in PC (AR)
In code 22, the PET carries 100 marks: 40 for the 1600 m run, 30 for the 100 m run and 30 for the long jump. Look at two candidates:
| Candidate | FWE (out of 100) | PET (out of 100) | Total (out of 200) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ravi | 78 | 55 | 133 |
| Lakshmi | 70 | 72 | 142 |
Ravi wrote a better final paper, but Lakshmi ranks higher because her PET score was much better. In PC (AR), physical performance is half of your final marks. In PC (Civil), Firemen and Warders, the same PET would only need to be "passed", and Ravi would rank higher.
- "My PWT score will help my rank." No – it only decides whether you move forward.
- "I passed PET, so physical training is over." True for codes 21, 42, 53, 54; for code 22 every second and centimetre adds marks.
- "I will submit missing certificates later." The notification says no certificates are accepted after the PMT/PET verification.

- ✓- Intermediate pass; age 18–24 for PC (Civil/AR) and 18–32 for Firemen and Warders, as on 1 July 2026, with relaxations.
- ✓- Stages: PWT → Stage II form → PMT → PET → FWE → verification.
- ✓- PWT qualifying marks: 40% OC (incl. EWS), 35% BC, 30% SC/ST; PWT marks do not count in final merit.
- ✓- Final merit: FWE alone (200) for 21, 42, 53, 54; FWE (100) + PET (100) for 22.
- ✓The 2026 notification gives one route for five posts: a qualifying Preliminary Written Test, physical tests, and a Final Written Examination that decides your rank. Only for PC (AR) do PET marks join the final total. Keep your certificates ready, fill preferences carefully, and watch the SLPRB website for the press release with dates.
