Why it matters
The AP Police Constable written test is one paper of 200 objective questions in 3 hours. That is about 54 seconds per question (180 × 60 ÷ 200 = 54). Knowing a topic is not enough. You must recall it fast, work every sum by hand, and stay accurate for three full hours.
Most candidates who fail lack a system, not ability: weeks of reading notes, little self-testing, and full mocks started too late. This lesson explains the PrepAtlas system and why each step exists.
Start with the official facts (as of the 2026 notification)
| Item | What SLPRB says |
|---|---|
| Dates | Dates will be announced by SLPRB press release. No application or exam date has been announced yet. |
| Preliminary Written Test (PWT) | One paper, 200 questions, 200 marks, 3 hours |
| Final Written Examination (FWE) | One paper, 200 questions, 3 hours, same syllabus |
| Standard | Intermediate; Arithmetic at SSC standard |
| Language | English, Telugu and Urdu. English-section questions stay in English in every version. |
| Marking | Full marks for darkening only the one correct bubble; zero for a blank. No minus marking is prescribed. |
| PWT qualifying marks | 40% for OC (including EWS), 35% for BC, 30% for SC/ST. PWT marks do not count in the final selection. |
The syllabus has seven official headings: English; Arithmetic; Reasoning / Mental Ability; General Science; History of India, Indian culture and the National Movement; Indian Geography, Polity and Economy; and Current events.
Two planning points follow:
- The same paper type returns at the FWE, which decides written merit, so every PWT skill is reused.
- A blank can never earn a mark. Train yourself to answer all 200 questions.
The PrepAtlas loop: Learn → Practise → Test → Fix
1. Learn: lessons
Each topic lesson has the same shape: why it matters, the core concept, worked examples, how it is asked in the exam, short cards (key points, common mistakes, exam tips, a quick check, a recap) and a Telugu summary at the end.
How to use a lesson well:
- Cover each worked solution and try it yourself first. A minute of struggle teaches more than reading a finished answer.
- Answer the quick check without scrolling back. Recalling a fact strengthens it; re-reading only makes it feel familiar.
- If an English word blocks you, read the Telugu summary, then return to the English. Remember: the English section is always in English.
2. Practise: topic sets
After every lesson, solve that topic's practice set the same day, while the method is fresh. Go slowly at first, then time yourself. Below about 7 out of 10? Redo the worked examples before moving on.
3. Test: full mocks
A PrepAtlas full mock is one 200-question paper in 180 minutes, the same shape as the real test. Mocks come in three levels, Easy → Medium → Hard, always taken in that order. The PrepAtlas plan is built around 90 full mocks: 30 Easy, 30 Medium and 30 Hard.
Why this order? A Hard mock in week one only shows what you have not learnt yet. Rising difficulty matches rising skill, so each mock teaches something you are ready to learn.
4. Fix: analysis and the error log
Most students skip this step, yet most marks come from it. After a mock, spend about half to three-quarters of the mock time (90 to 135 minutes for a 3-hour mock) on analysis. Check every wrong answer and every answer you guessed correctly. A lucky guess is still a gap.
Give each error a tag, because each tag needs a different fix:
| Error tag | What it means | The fix |
|---|---|---|
| Concept gap | You did not know the rule or fact | Re-read the lesson, redo the practice set |
| Careless | You knew it but misread or miscalculated | Read the last line of the question first; recheck units |
| Time | You rushed or guessed for lack of time | Timed drills on that question type |
| Trap | An attractive wrong option fooled you | Write the trap in your error log |
| Unseen topic | You have not studied it yet | Note it; it will come in your plan |
Worked example: reading one mock properly
Lakshmi takes Easy mock 14 and scores 118 out of 200. Since there is no minus marking and she left nothing blank, she has 118 right and 82 wrong. She also marks 9 of her right answers as guesses, so she reviews 82 + 9 = 91 questions.
Her section scores:
| English | Arithmetic | Reasoning | Science | History | Geo-Polity-Economy | Current events |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 12/20 | 24/40 | 31/40 | 14/25 | 13/25 | 15/30 | 9/20 |
Her 82 wrong answers by tag: concept gap 30, careless 20, time 14, trap 10, unseen topic 8 (30 + 20 + 14 + 10 + 8 = 82).
What she does next:
- Most concept gaps sit in percentage and Fundamental Rights. These become tomorrow's two learning blocks.
- Her 20 careless errors are marks she already "knew". She now reads each question's last line first and watches for NOT and EXCEPT.
- The 8 unseen-topic questions can wait; her plan reaches them later.
The score alone tells her nothing; the tags tell her what to do tomorrow.
What to study first (PrepAtlas strategy)
The notification does not give a subject-wise split. PrepAtlas builds its mocks on this proposed split, which is our planning estimate, not an official rule:
| English | Arithmetic | Reasoning | Science | History | Geo-Polity-Economy | Current events | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20 | 40 | 40 | 25 | 25 | 30 | 20 | 200 |
From this, the recommended order is:
- Arithmetic and Reasoning first. They carry the largest share in our split and improve steadily with practice.
- One General Studies subject alongside, so each day has two learning blocks: one Arithmetic/Reasoning, one General Studies.
- Prerequisites first. Percentage and ratio come before profit and loss, interest, mixtures, partnership and data interpretation, which are built on them.
- English and current events from day 1, in small doses. Read English for 15 minutes and current events for 15 minutes daily. Full English lessons start once Arithmetic and Reasoning are covered, around day 45.
The 90-day plan (PrepAtlas strategy)
No official body prescribes a study plan. This is our recommendation; adjust it using your own results.
| Days | Phase | What you do | Mock level | Time split, learn : practise : mocks : revise |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Foundation | Orientation and a short untimed diagnostic test | Easy, untimed (Track A only) | — |
| 2–30 | Learn + practise | Two learning blocks a day; practice set after every lesson | Easy | 50 : 30 : 5 : 15 |
| 31–60 | Learn + timed practice | Finish the syllabus; timed sectional sets | Medium | 30 : 25 : 30 : 15 |
| 61–80 | Consolidate | Loops on your weakest three topics | Hard | 5 : 15 : 50 : 30 |
| 81–90 | Final | One-page revision sheets, error log, light practice | Hard + re-attempts | 0 : 10 : 50 : 40 |
Every 7th day is a review day: no new lessons, only the week's wrong questions and your revision sheets. Without it, week-one topics fade by week four.
Choose a track that fits your life:
| Track | For whom | Daily study | Full mocks in 90 days | Mock levels start |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A Intensive | Full-time, foundation already done | 9–10 h | 90 | Easy day 1 (untimed until day 10), Medium day 31, Hard day 61 |
| B Standard | Full-time | 7–8 h | 72 (6 a week from day 8) | Easy day 8, Medium day 36, Hard day 64 |
| C Part-time | Working or college students | 3–4 h | 40 (alternate days from day 10) | Easy day 10, Medium day 36, Hard day 62 |
Complete beginners should take Track B or C. Mocks not reached inside 90 days remain for re-attempts.
When SLPRB announces the exam date, re-anchor the plan so that day 90 is the day before the exam. If fewer than 90 days remain, shorten each phase in proportion, but keep at least 15 days of Hard-level mocks.
Do not forget the physical tests
Candidates who qualify in the PWT go on to the Physical Measurements Test (PMT) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET). The PET is qualifying for PC Civil (post code 21), Firemen (42) and Warders (53, 54). For PC (AR) (post code 22) it is scored out of 100 and added to the FWE, also marked out of 100, so the PET is half of the final merit.
PrepAtlas strategy: train about one hour a day from day 1. Fitness takes months to build, and the physical stage follows the written test whether you are ready or not. The Physical Preparation lessons give a weekly schedule.
- Collecting more books instead of solving more questions
- Taking mocks but never analysing them
- Jumping to Hard mocks before finishing Easy and Medium
- Leaving bubbles blank when no minus marking is prescribed
Practise a two-round method in every mock. Round 1: answer what you can at once and note the question numbers you skip. Round 2: return to them. Keep the last 10 minutes to mark a best answer for every remaining question and check that each answer sits against the right number.
- ✓- One paper: 200 questions, 3 hours, about 54 seconds each; the FWE uses the same syllabus.
- ✓- Dates will be announced by SLPRB press release; none are announced yet.
- ✓- Every topic follows Learn → Practise → Test → Fix.
- ✓- Analyse every wrong answer and every lucky guess, and tag the cause.
- ✓- Start with Arithmetic, Reasoning and one General Studies subject; read English and current events 15 minutes daily.
- ✓- Mocks go Easy → Medium → Hard; every 7th day is a review day.
- ✓- No minus marking is prescribed, so never leave a blank.
- ✓- Begin physical training on day 1.
- ✓Know the official pattern, then follow the loop: read actively, practise the same day, take mocks in rising difficulty, and analyse each one. The 90-day plan (PrepAtlas strategy) shifts from learning to mocks and revision, with a weekly review day. Pick your track, re-anchor it when SLPRB announces the date, and train your body alongside your mind.
