Notes

Definitions:

  • CP = Cost Price. SP = Selling Price. MP = Marked Price.
  • Profit: SP > CP. P% = (SP-CP)/CP × 100.
  • Loss: SP < CP. L% = (CP-SP)/CP × 100.
  • Discount % = (MP-SP)/MP × 100.

Key formulas:

  • SP = CP × (100±P%)/100.
  • CP = SP × 100/(100±P%).
  • After markup M% + discount D%: profit % = M − D − MD/100.

Common RRB problems:

  1. "Cost X, sold Y, profit %?"
  2. Successive discount equivalent.
  3. "Marked above CP, then discount = profit %?"
  4. Equal % profit & loss on same SP → net LOSS = (X/10)² %.
  5. Dishonest dealer / faulty weight: gain = (error)/(true − error) × 100.

Quick fact: "Sold 2 articles at same price; one at 20% profit, other at 20% loss" → 4% net LOSS always.
