INDIAN RAILWAYS PSUs = Public Sector Undertakings under Ministry of Railways.

These handle catering, infrastructure, finance, tourism, telecom, freight, and high-speed rail.


1. IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation)

  • Established: 1999.
  • HQ: New Delhi.
  • Operates:
    • Online ticket booking (irctc.co.in).
    • Catering on trains and stations.
    • Tourism packages (Buddhist circuit, luxury trains).
    • Maharajas' Express, Tejas (Lucknow-Delhi, Mumbai-Ahmedabad — first private operator).
    • Rail Neer (packaged water on trains).
  • Listed: NSE/BSE since 2019.
  • Revenue: ₹4,400+ crore (FY 2024).

2. RailTel Corporation of India

  • Established: 2000.
  • HQ: Gurugram.
  • Operates:
    • Optical fibre network along railway tracks (~63,000 km).
    • Internet at railway stations (Free Wi-Fi at 6,000+ stations).
    • Data centers, cloud services.
  • Listed: NSE/BSE since 2021.

3. IRCON International

  • Established: 1976.
  • HQ: New Delhi.
  • Operates:
    • Construction of railway infrastructure (lines, bridges, electrification).
    • Highway construction.
    • International projects (in 30+ countries).
  • Listed: since 2018.

4. CONCOR (Container Corporation of India)

  • Established: 1988.
  • HQ: New Delhi.
  • Operates:
    • Container freight transport.
    • Multimodal logistics (rail + road + ports).
    • 80+ container terminals across India.
  • Listed: since 1995.
  • Strategic disinvestment announced; under consideration.

5. RVNL (Rail Vikas Nigam Limited)

  • Established: 2003.
  • HQ: New Delhi.
  • Operates:
    • Implementing arm for Railway Capacity Augmentation projects.
    • Doubling, tripling lines, electrification.
  • Listed: since 2019.

6. DFCCIL (Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited)

  • Established: 2006.
  • HQ: New Delhi.
  • Operates:
    • Construction & operation of Dedicated Freight Corridors.
    • Eastern DFC (Ludhiana to Dankuni, 1,856 km) — completed.
    • Western DFC (Dadri to Jawaharlal Nehru Port, 1,506 km) — nearly complete.

7. NHSRCL (National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited)

  • Established: 2016.
  • HQ: New Delhi.
  • Operates:
    • Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (Bullet Train) project.
    • 508 km, design speed 320 km/h.
    • JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) loan-funded.
    • Expected commercial: 2027.

8. RITES (Rail India Technical and Economic Services)

  • Established: 1974.
  • HQ: Gurugram.
  • Operates:
    • Engineering consultancy.
    • Wagon leasing, export of railway equipment.
    • Quality assurance services.
  • Listed: since 2018.

9. IRFC (Indian Railway Finance Corporation)

  • Established: 1986.
  • HQ: New Delhi.
  • Role: finance arm of Indian Railways — raises debt to fund rolling stock acquisition.
  • Listed: since 2021.

10. KMRC (Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation)

  • Established: 2008.
  • HQ: Kolkata.
  • Operates:
    • East-West Metro (under-river tunnel under Hooghly).
    • Joint Centre + WB Govt.

11. KRCL (Konkan Railway Corporation Limited)

  • Established: 1990.
  • HQ: Navi Mumbai (CBD Belapur).
  • Operates:
    • 741 km Konkan Railway from Roha (Maharashtra) to Mangaluru (Karnataka).
    • Engineering marvel: 92 tunnels, 2,000+ bridges, through Western Ghats.

12. MRVC (Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation)

  • Established: 1999.
  • HQ: Mumbai.
  • Operates:
    • Mumbai Suburban Railway modernisation projects.
    • Joint Centre + Maharashtra Govt.

13. CRIS (Centre for Railway Information Systems)

  • Established: 1986.
  • HQ: New Delhi.
  • Operates:
    • Develops & maintains computer systems for Indian Railways.
    • PNR system, NTES (train enquiry), UTS (unreserved ticketing), HRMS.
